The instructional aides are an important part of supporting St. Eugene’s students in the curricular demands of their academic programs. They work with individuals and small groups offering reinforcement and enrichment activities. They are vital in offering our students individualized attention and support. We have instructional aide time most of the day in first through fourth grades. Instructional aides assist teachers in sixth, seventh and eighth grades in English, reading and literature and also in seventh and eighth grade mathematics and science.

We have co-teaching in mathematics in grades four through six, with smaller math classes in fifth and sixth grades. We have developed an accelerated math program in grades seven and eight in which gifted math students take Honors Pre-Algebra and Honors Algebra I courses.

Using our credentialed resource teacher and our instructional aides, we have three adults per class and thus are able to teach reading, writing, and mathematics in the primary grades in small groups of 12 students to 1 teacher/instructional aide.
